Microsoft est sur le point de sortir une mise \u00e0 jour d’importance pour Windows 10. Elle corrigera de nombreux bugs et retouchera un peu l’interface, mais pas seulement. Sous le capot, cette mise \u00e0 jour apportera la prise en charge d’une caract\u00e9ristique des derniers processeurs Intel Skylake<\/a>, qui peut r\u00e9sulter en une hausse des performances de 50 % !<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cette fonction, c’est Speed Shift<\/strong> (autrement dit changement rapide). Dernier ce nom, Intel cache une refonte de la gestion des \u00e9tats d’alimentation du processeur, Speed Step. Vous le savez sans doute, tous les processeurs modernes font varier leur fr\u00e9quence automatiquement en fonction des besoins en puissance \u00e0 un instant t : en veille elle est r\u00e9duite au minimum, en pleine activit\u00e9 elle est pouss\u00e9e \u00e0 son maximum. Voil\u00e0 la th\u00e9orie. En pratique, ces changements de fr\u00e9quence ne peuvent pas se faire de mani\u00e8re instantan\u00e9e : il faut environ 100 ms pour monter de 1 GHz \u00e0 3,5 GHz par exemple. Speed Shift permet de diviser cette latence par deux.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cette acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration est permise par un changement d’architecture profond : le contr\u00f4le de Speed Shift se fait en grande partie par le processeur lui-m\u00eame, alors que Speed Step est pilot\u00e9 par le syst\u00e8me d’exploitation. C’est aussi ce qui explique que Speed Shift n\u00e9cessite une mise \u00e0 jour de l’OS. Le passage de relais de l’OS au CPU a deux effets b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques : une r\u00e9ponse plus rapide et une gestion plus fine, le processeur n’\u00e9tant plus limit\u00e9 \u00e0 seulement quelques \u00e9tats d’alimentation (les P-State), mais pouvant acc\u00e9der \u00e0 toute la plage des coefficients multiplicateurs. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Anandtech a pu avoir acc\u00e8s au patch activant Speed Shift sous Windows 10 un peu avance afin de tester son effet. Il est tr\u00e8s contrast\u00e9. Sous PCMark 8, on ne note presque rien, 3 % tout au plus de mieux. Le bilan est le m\u00eame dans des tests JavaScript avec le navigateur Edge : +2,6 % sur le test Mozilla Kraken, + 4 % sur Google Octane v2.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Mais le test webXPRT se montre beaucoup plus sensible avec 20 % de mieux sous webXPRT 2015 et m\u00eame 26 % de mieux sous webXPRT 2013.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Plus de performances, d’accord, mais quid de l’autonomie ? Intel ne pr\u00e9voit aucune influence, ni b\u00e9n\u00e9fique ni n\u00e9faste, et Anandtech n’a en effet mesur\u00e9 aucune diff\u00e9rence significative.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
