L\u2019Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) vient d\u2019annoncer le lancement d\u2019un tout nouveau codec vid\u00e9o\u00a0: l\u2019AV1<\/strong>. Le consortium regroupe de nombreux acteurs du monde des m\u00e9dias et de la technologie tels que Google, Facebook,\u00a0Netflix, Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, Apple, ou Twitch, entre autres. On peut donc s\u2019attendre \u00e0 une adoption assez rapide de la technologie par l\u2019industrie. De plus, le codec est libre de droit et open source pour \u00e9viter tout conflit potentiel.<\/p>\n

Un nouveau standard<\/h3>\n

Il aura fallu trois ans de travail \u00e0 l\u2019alliance pour accoucher de l\u2019AV1 qui offre un taux de compression 30 % \u00e0 40 % plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 que l\u2019HEVC ou le VP9, y compris sur le vid\u00e9os 4K. Des performances qui repr\u00e9sentent une aubaine pour les plateformes de streaming, puisqu\u2019un contenu consommera moins de bande passante. Il n’y a pour l’instant aucune date de d\u00e9ploiement pr\u00e9cis des premiers m\u00e9dias utilisant l’AV1, mais on s’attend \u00e0 ce qu’ils d\u00e9barquent d’ici 2018, voire 2019.<\/p>\n
