Nous avons d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9voqu\u00e9 les impressionnantes caract\u00e9ristiques du GPU A100 de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration Ampere<\/a>, destin\u00e9 aux datacenters et \u00e0 la recherche en IA. Descendant direct des GPU Tesla V100, il totalise la bagatelle de 54,2 milliards de transistors, sur un die de 826 mm\u00b2 – soit 2,5 fois plus de transistors, sur une surface \u00e0 peine plus large de 1,3% par rapport \u00e0 la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente. De telles caract\u00e9ristiques sont \u00e9videmment r\u00e9serv\u00e9es aux supercalculateurs et aux centres de recherche en intelligence artificielle. Grav\u00e9 en 7 nm, le GPU offrirait, selon Nvidia, des performances vingt fois sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 celles d\u2019une carte Tesla V100, en calcul simple pr\u00e9cision (FP32).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nvidia annonce 90% des performances du SXM4, au format PCIe 4<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Plusieurs constructeurs l\u2019ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 int\u00e9gr\u00e9 \u00e0 des supercalculateurs ou des serveurs hautes performances, comme Atos avec son BullSequana X2415 ou encore Asus avec l\u2019ESC4000A-E10<\/a> ou Gigabyte avec le G292-Z40<\/a>. Au total, plus de cinquante r\u00e9f\u00e9rences devraient alimenter le march\u00e9 d\u2019ici la fin de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 2020. \u201cL\u2019adoption des GPU Nvidia A100 dans les offres des principaux constructeurs de serveurs d\u00e9passe tout ce que nous avons vu auparavant<\/em>, d\u00e9clare Ian Buck, le vice-pr\u00e9sident et directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la branche Accelerated Computing. Mais si la premi\u00e8re occurrence de l\u2019A100 se d\u00e9clinait autour du format SXM4 (carte mezzanine), Nvidia d\u00e9cide aujourd\u2019hui de la proposer en PCIe 4.0. Une solution plus simple et \u201cabordable\u201d, autour d\u2019un format plus propice pour les serveurs classiques, et toujours pour une utilisation scientifique – s\u00e9chez vos larmes : l\u2019architecture Ampere ne se d\u00e9cline pas encore \u00e0 un usage gaming<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette variante pr\u00e9sente toutefois un co\u00fbt : le passage au PCIe 4.0 r\u00e9duit le TDP \u00e0 250 W en lieu et place des 400 W de la version SXM, ce qui se traduirait par une baisse de 10% des performances selon Nvidia, dans les t\u00e2ches mono-GPU. Un d\u00e9calage que l\u2019on peut expliquer par la marge limit\u00e9e du PCIe par rapport au SXM, en mati\u00e8re d\u2019alimentation et de refroidissement. Autre changement, la carte au format PCIe n\u2019exploite la technologie NVLink, qui assure la communication inter-GPU, qu\u2019entre deux cartes \u00e0 la fois. On dispose malgr\u00e9 tout de trois connecteurs NVLink, ce qui signifie que les \u00e9changes s\u2019op\u00e8rent \u00e0 300 Go\/s pour chaque \u201ccouple\u201d de carte, soit un d\u00e9bit trois fois sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui des cartes V100 au format PCIe de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
