Le site Chips and Cheese livre un rapport int\u00e9ressant sur la latence m\u00e9moire des GPU Ampere de NVIDIA et RDNA 2 d\u2019AMD ; plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, la GeForce RTX 3090<\/a> et la Radeon RX 6800 XT<\/a>. Les tests effectu\u00e9s sous OpenCL montrent que le GPU RDNA 2 d\u2019AMD jouit de latences nettement inf\u00e9rieures \u00e0 celles du GPU Ampere de NVIDIA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour comprendre ces courbes, quelques pr\u00e9cisions ne sont pas superflues. Pour ses cartes Ampere, NVIDIA utilise un traditionnel syst\u00e8me de cache \u00e0 deux niveaux : L1 et L2. Les Radeon RX 6000 s\u2019appuient sur une plus excentrique conception \u00e0 quatre niveaux : L0, L1, L2 et Infinity Cache (L3). Comme relev\u00e9 ci-dessus, la latence entre le cache L1 et L2 pour la carte de NVIDIA est sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 100 ns. Pour celle d\u2019AMD, malgr\u00e9 le cache L1 entre le L0 et le L2, la latence est de seulement 66 ns entre le L0 et le L2. En outre, l\u2019Infinity Cache n\u2019induit que 20 ns de latence. Ainsi, en d\u00e9pit d\u2019un nombre de caches plus cons\u00e9quent, le GPU RDNA 2 a une latence VRAM similaire \u00e0 celle de son rival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un GPU GA102 plus massif<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chips and Cheese pense que le massif GPU GA102 de la RTX 3090 avec sa surface de 628 mm\u00b2 (contre 520 mm2 pour Navi 21) a un impact sur les latences, et que les puces Ampere de NVIDIA sont surtout \u00e0 l\u2019aise avec beaucoup de parall\u00e9lisme. Par ailleurs, les faibles latences L2 et L3 des cartes RDNA 2 leur garantissent logiquement de meilleures performances dans des charges de travail peu gourmandes o\u00f9 ce crit\u00e8re pr\u00e9vaut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
