Le site Phoronix livre des d\u00e9tails int\u00e9ressants sur les tarifs des solutions Altra d\u2019Ampere, une gamme de processeurs \u00e9quip\u00e9s de c\u0153urs ARM ; celle-ci va de l\u2019Ampere Altra Q32-17 \u00e0 32 c\u0153urs au M128-30 dot\u00e9 de 128 c\u0153urs ARM Neoverse N1 cadenc\u00e9s \u00e0 3 GHz. Le prix de cette puce s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 5800 dollars. Pour mettre cette somme en perspective avec les tarifs des processeurs AMD et Intel, sachez qu\u2019un EPYC 7763<\/a> \u00e0 64 c\u0153urs (2,45 GHz \u2013 3,50 GHz) se n\u00e9gocie 7890 dollars et un Xeon Platinum 8380<\/a> \u00e0 40 c\u0153urs (2,30 GHz \u2013 3,40 GHz), 8099 dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certes, les puces Altra Max ne sont pas aussi performantes dans l’absolu que les solutions AMD et Intel, mais elles offrent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9vidence un nombre important de c\u0153urs 64 bits \u00e0 un prix bien inf\u00e9rieur. C\u2019est aussi le cas si l\u2019on regarde en bas de tableau : le processeur Ampere Altra Q32-17 avec 32 c\u0153urs et une fr\u00e9quence de 1,70 GHz s’affiche \u00e0 800 dollars, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 un EPYC 7302 \u00e0 16 c\u0153urs co\u00fbte 978 dollars. Chez Intel, les Xeon Silver avoisinent les 500 dollars mais n\u2019ont que huit c\u0153urs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMD se dit pr\u00eat \u00e0 concevoir des puces ARM selon son directeur financier<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

30,72 dollars par jour pour un processeur 128 coeurs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Un des autres avantages des c\u0153urs ARM Neoverse N1 est leur consommation : 128 c\u0153urs pour un TDP de 250 W seulement. Comme le souligne l\u2019article de Tom\u2019s Hardware US, ces puces Altra valent surtout pour des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de cloud hyperscale<\/em> ex\u00e9cutant un nombre limit\u00e9 d\u2019applications et qui sont susceptibles de d\u00e9velopper des logiciels tirant parti d\u2019un nombre \u00e9lev\u00e9 de c\u0153urs plus que des performances par c\u0153ur. Ainsi, dans un article<\/a> publi\u00e9 en mai dernier, Oracle indiquait que ses serveurs Altra Ampere offrait un prix de un cent par heure par c\u0153ur, soit 30,72 dollars par jour pour une puce 128 c\u0153urs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour illustrer concr\u00e8tement ces gains, l\u2019article rapporte : “Lors de l’ex\u00e9cution de charges de travail d’encodage vid\u00e9o x264 sur OCI Ampere A1, Oracle a constat\u00e9 une augmentation des performances allant jusqu’\u00e0 10 % et un avantage prix-performance allant jusqu’\u00e0 22 % par rapport aux syst\u00e8mes x86. Pour les charges de travail de proxy inverse NGINX sur OCI Ampere A1, Oracle a constat\u00e9 une augmentation des performances allant jusqu’\u00e0 46 % et un avantage prix-performance allant jusqu’\u00e0 62 % par rapport aux syst\u00e8mes x86”<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outre Ampere et Oracle, des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s comme Fujitsu (processeurs A64FX) ou encore Huawei mobilisent des puces Arm dans leurs centres de donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
