En mai dernier, les gouvernements \u00e9tats-uniens et japonais convenaient d\u2019une coop\u00e9ration centr\u00e9e sur le d\u00e9veloppement et la production de masse de semi-conducteurs bas\u00e9s sur le processus 2 nm. L\u2019administration nippone a d\u00e9j\u00e0 allou\u00e9 350 milliards de yens, soit environ 2,39 milliards d\u2019euros, \u00e0 la construction d\u2019un centre de recherche. Celui-ci doit rassembler des entreprises japonaises et am\u00e9ricaines de semi-conducteurs ainsi que plusieurs universit\u00e9s du Pays du Soleil Levant.<\/p>\n\n\n

La publication du Nikkei donne les noms de quelques-uns des organismes impliqu\u00e9s dans ce projet : l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Tokyo, le RIKEN, l’Institut national des sciences et technologies industrielles avanc\u00e9es, et IBM. Pour le moment, les objectifs concrets du gouvernement japonais restent incertains, mais \u00e0 l’\u00e9vidence, le projet est pris au s\u00e9rieux. Outre les 350 milliards de yens susmentionn\u00e9s allou\u00e9s \u00e0 la construction du centre de recherche, il est question d\u2019une enveloppe de 450 milliards de yens pour des centres de production (3,07 milliards d’euros) et d\u2019une autre de 370 milliards de yens (2,53 milliards d’euros) pour l\u2019approvisionnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japon, Europe, \u00c9tats-Unis, Chine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tous ces montants semblent en tout cas attester de la volont\u00e9 du Japon de relancer son industrie des semi-conducteurs \u00e0 l\u2019horizon 2030. Hormis Kioxia, pour les m\u00e9moires, le pays n\u2019est plus \u00e0 la pointe dans ce secteur. Afin d\u2019attirer les usines d\u2019entreprises \u00e0 la pointe, comme celles du fondeur ta\u00efwanais TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) ou de Micron Technology, le gouvernement japonais est aussi dispos\u00e9 \u00e0 subventionner, comme le font l\u2019Europe ou les \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur le Vieux Continent, Intel a valid\u00e9 un premier investissement de 33 milliards d\u2019euros<\/a> en mars dernier. La firme am\u00e9ricaine, qui conditionnait son installation en Europe \u00e0 un soutien financier, construira notamment une Mega Fab en Allemagne. Outre-Atlantique, le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral et l\u2019\u00c9tat de l\u2019Arizona ont \u00e9galement mis la main au portefeuille pour convaincre TSMC d\u2019implanter une usine de semi-conducteurs dans le pays<\/a>. Bref, la fabrication de semi-conducteurs s’impose comme un enjeu crucial de ces prochaines d\u00e9cennies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
