AMD s\u2019est lanc\u00e9e depuis quelques mois sur le march\u00e9 des smartphones via un partenariat avec Samsung\u00a0; il a d\u00e9bouch\u00e9 sur l\u2019Exynos 2200, un SoC dot\u00e9 d\u2019un GPU sous architecture RDNA<\/strong>. L\u2019entreprise dirig\u00e9e par Lisa Su souhaiterait renforcer sa position sur ce secteur\u00a0: pas exclusivement avec du hardware, mais aussi avec du software, en y apportant sa technologie de mise \u00e0 l’\u00e9chelle, la FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est l\u2019information \u2013 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e comme exclusive \u2013 partag\u00e9e par l\u2019auteur du compte Twitter Tech_Reve. Il \u00e9crit\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Exclusif : AMD, Samsung et Qualcomm ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de collaborer pour d\u00e9velopper la technologie “FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)” afin de concurrencer le DLSS de NVIDIA, et il est pr\u00e9vu que la technologie FSR soit impl\u00e9ment\u00e9e \u00e0 l’avenir dans le Galaxy de Samsung, parall\u00e8lement au ray tracing<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019auteur sugg\u00e8re donc que la FSR pourrait \u00eatre d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e sur le segment mobile avec les prochains smartphones de Samsung, \u00e0 savoir les Galaxy S24\u00a0; ce pour les mod\u00e8les arm\u00e9s de l\u2019Exynos 2400, prochaine it\u00e9ration apr\u00e8s l’Exynos 2300 avort\u00e9<\/a>, mais aussi du Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, version surcharg\u00e9e d’IA officialis\u00e9e il y a quelques jours<\/a>. Comme sur PC, la FSR viendrait en soutien du GPU, principalement dans les sc\u00e9narios impliquant du ray tracing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 vrai dire, cette suggestion n\u2019est pas tr\u00e8s surprenante. Contrairement au DLSS de NVIDIA, r\u00e9serv\u00e9 aux GeForce RTX, la FSR d\u2019AMD est compatible avec une large gamme de GPU, y compris concurrents. Autrement dit, sa prise en charge par des puces mobiles tels que les Snapdragon (et \u00e0 plus forte les Exynos) ne serait s\u00fbrement pas tr\u00e8s complexe \u00e0 mettre en \u0153uvre. De fait, la FSR sert d\u00e9j\u00e0 pour une console portable pourtant \u00e9quip\u00e9e d\u2019une puce NVIDIA, la Nintendo Switch<\/strong>\u00a0: la technologie aide notamment la console dans le jeu No Man\u2019s Sky<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La FSR, une solution plus universelle que le DLSS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Samsung et AMD sont officiellement partenaires\u00a0; le support du FSR par les futurs Exynos n\u2019est s\u00fbrement qu\u2019une question de temps. Cependant, concernant les Snapdragon, Qualcomm a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 sa propre techno d\u2019upscaling appel\u00e9e Snapdragon GSR<\/a>. D\u2019ailleurs, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 utilisait la FSR 1.0 dans ses comparaisons. Pr\u00e9cisons au passage qu\u2019Apple a \u00e9galement la sienne, MetalFX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au sujet du ray tracing, tous les SoC haut de gamme des smartphones offrent d\u00e9sormais une prise en charge mat\u00e9rielle<\/strong>\u00a0: Exynos 2200, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Dimensity 9200. Seul le Tensor G3 de Google fait exception. \u00c0 l\u2019instar de ce que nous observons sur le march\u00e9 des PC, o\u00f9 la FSR \/ le DLSS deviennent vite indispensables d\u00e8s que le ray tracing entre en jeu, cette m\u00eame n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 risque de se faire ressentir sur le segment mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, \u00e0 propos de l’id\u00e9e de \u00ab\u00a0concurrencer le DLSS\u00a0\u00bb, elle est infond\u00e9e pour le moment : \u00e9trange de concurrencer une entreprise sur un terrain o\u00f9 elle est absente… Comme indiqu\u00e9 ci-dessus, le DLSS impose des c\u0153urs Tensor et n\u2019est disponible que sur du mat\u00e9riel de la marque\u00a0; or, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, l\u2019entreprise ne propose pas de SoC pour smartphones<\/strong>. En mai dernier, un rapport du DigiTimes a toutefois sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 l’int\u00e9gration future de GPU NVIDIA au sein de puces Mediatek. Reste qu’en l’\u00e9tat, la principale int\u00e9gration attendue du DLSS, en dehors des GeForce, concerne la Switch 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
