Comme vous le savez, Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6, est sorti vendredi. Nous allons aujourd’hui vous proposer deux actualit\u00e9s sur ce syst\u00e8me d’exploitation, une (celle-ci) qui donne les points n\u00e9gatifs, une autre (10 raisons d’aimer Snow Leopard) qui donne les points positifs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

1 : Il ne fonctionne pas sur les PowerPC<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Snow Leopard ne fonctionne que sur les processeurs Intel et fait donc l’impasse sur les processeurs PowerPC. Mais les machines en PowerPC ne sont pas si vieilles que \u00e7a : il y a encore 3 ans, Apple vendait des G5.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

2 : OpenCL ne fonctionne que sur peu de cartes<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

OpenCL, une des nouveaut\u00e9s de Snow Leopard, n\u00e9cessite une carte graphique compatible pour fonctionner. Et elles sont rares : les GeForce 8, les GeForce 9 et certaines Radeon HD (s\u00e9ries 48xx). En gros, des machines sorties depuis octobre 2008. Pour les mod\u00e8les plus anciens, et en dehors des MacBook Pro dot\u00e9s d’une GeForce 8 depuis juin 2007, il s’agit de cartes en option. Et bien \u00e9videmment, tous les Mac dot\u00e9s d’un IGP Intel (une grande majorit\u00e9 des portables jusqu’il y a un an) sont incompatibles.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

3 : L’acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration vid\u00e9o de QuickTime X<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

QuickTime X est capable de prendre en charge l’acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration vid\u00e9o des cartes graphiques, sauf qu’Apple limite cette fonction aux cartes GeForce 9 et uniquement en H.264 sous QuickTime. Les GeForce 8 et les Radeon HD, parfaitement capables de d\u00e9coder du H.264, sont donc sur la touche. Et les autres formats (VC1, MPEG-2) ne sont pas acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9s, tout comme les conteneurs qu’Apple ne reconna\u00eet pas (.avi, .mkv, etc.).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

4 : Pas de Blu-ray<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Snow Leopard ne prend pas en charge les Blu-ray, m\u00eame via un programme tiers, alors que les machines sont parfaitement capables de lire ce type de m\u00e9dias.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

5 : Le 64 bits du kernel<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Snow Leopard est un syst\u00e8me 64 bits, mais le noyau, par d\u00e9faut, d\u00e9marre en 32 bits sur la majorit\u00e9 des machines. Pire, une bonne partie des machines 64 bits ne supporte pas le kernel 64 bits parce que l’EFI (le firmware) est en 32 bits. M\u00eame si l’int\u00e9r\u00eat est limit\u00e9, parler d’un OS 64 bits quand le noyau reste en 32 bits est pour nous inacceptable.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

6 : Un simple Service Pack ?<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

M\u00eame si le syst\u00e8me a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9\u00e9crit \u00e0 90 %, selon Apple, on ne le voit pas : les nouveaut\u00e9s sont cosm\u00e9tiques et distinguer un OS 10.5 d’un 10.6 est difficile au premier coup d’oeil. M\u00eame si le syst\u00e8me est plus rapide, rien ne justifie r\u00e9ellement de faire payer une mise \u00e0 jour de ce type.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

7 : Le 64 bits inutile<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Les applications d’Apple sont r\u00e9\u00e9crites en 64 bits, mais l’int\u00e9r\u00eat est faible : une partie des Mac (en Core Duo) sont incompatibles et le gain est finalement inexistant sur les autres machines. Globalement, le 64 bits apporte peu de choses et est surtout parfaitement utilisable sur Leopard.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

8 : Un Finder toujours aussi mauvais<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Le Finder a certes \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9\u00e9crit pour Snow Leopard, mais son aspect et son interface sont identiques : il est toujours aussi mauvais. Dans les faits, on garde donc un outil \u00e0 l’ergonomie discutable, avec tous ses d\u00e9fauts.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

9 : Des bugs et mises \u00e0 jour n\u00e9cessaires<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Comme toujours, il reste des bugs dans le syst\u00e8me (dont des parties encore en anglais) et beaucoup de programmes n\u00e9cessitent des mises \u00e0 jour. M\u00eame s’il y en a peu, d\u00e9couvrir que son utilitaire pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 ne fonctionne pas est toujours une mauvaise surprise.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

10 : Windows 7 arrive<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

Snow Leopard est une mise \u00e0 jour mineure, finalement, et Windows 7 arrive en octobre. Quand on compare les nouveaut\u00e9s de Windows et celle de Mac OS X, le bilan n’est pas fameux pour le syst\u00e8me de Steve Jobs. On peut se demander comment Apple va arriver \u00e0 montrer que son OS a une avance sur celui de Microsoft tant Snow Leopard donne l’impression d’une non-\u00e9volution en deux ans.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
